Walking Barefoot Has Actual Health Benefits

The hippies in the 70’s might have been on to something‚Ķ. ūüėČ

Did you know that walking barefoot in nature has actual health benefits for your precious body?

It’s true!

Whether it’s at the beach or in your back yard you reap the benefits. As long as you are walking on ground that is au naturel you’re good to go!

It has been proved in various scientific studies that walking barefoot (or “earthing”) on natural ground can improve health in various ways because of the relationship between the electrons in the earth and our bodies.

“The theory behind earthing ‚ÄĒ which essentially means walking barefoot ‚ÄĒ is that the earth is one of the most powerful energy sources; when our bodies make direct contact with the ground, we absorb the earth‚Äôs beneficial, natural energy¬†in the form of electrons. The electrons allow us to absorb the positive and let go of the negative. It used to happen naturally when cavemen walked barefoot, allowing them to have closer connection to the earth ‚ÄĒ and look how healthy they were!”

Amazing huh!?

Some of the benefits include:

-Reduced stress levels

– Fight varicose veins

– Decreased feelings of depression

– Strengthens and stretches your muscles, tendons and ligaments in your feet, ankles and calves

– Increased antioxidants levels

– Reduced inflammation

– Improve sleep

– Thins blood & creates better circulation making for improved cardiovascular health

But, don’t take my word for it! Take 15-30 minutes to walk barefoot today and see how good you feel afterwards.

DIY: Chocolate Face Mask for Vibrant Skin

A few weeks ago, I tried this DIY face mask. Lindsay from Delighted Momma made up this recipe. I love her blog and trust her judgment as I have had success with some of her healthy recipes in the past and she even used to own an esthetics business so I assumed I could trust her once again. Guess what? I was right!

This mask will make your skin feel extra youthful, very soft and glowing!  One tip, be careful to watch out for dripping. Yes, if the temperature is too warm you will end up like a melted chocolate bar so beware.

This recipe has almost the exact ingredients I use to make homemade dark chocolate! Seriously, you could eat it…and then you would have yourself a real party.

  • 2 Tbsp. cacao powder (learn more about this superfood here.)
  • 1 Tbsp. raw honey
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. organic coconut oil, melted

  • Mix together thoroughly (It should be of paste-like consistency- if it’s not add some more cacao.)
  • Apply with clean fingers
  • Leave for about 15-20 minutes (or less if you start to drip!)
  • Remove with warm water and follow with an organic moisturizer (I use organic extra virgin coconut oil!)

  • “The natural oils from the cacao powder help smooth out wrinkles.
Cacao powder contains antioxidants that help clear out toxins in your skin, which can make you look older.¬†The honey is incredibly moisturizing, but will not break you out.¬†Coconut oil is full of essential nutrients for your skin and is a proven antiseptic and antimicrobial agent. It is also proven to soften wrinkles and help acne.”

Have fun and happy DIYing!

xoxo, Danielle

10 Natural Beautifying Tips

by, Danielle Stein

60% of what goes onto our skin goes into your blood within just 26 seconds. In order to truly live a healthy lifestyle we must examine every area, and this includes excluding toxic chemicals from your beautifying practice. I personally follow all of these natural beautifying tips and I love them! I think they have a huge influence on my vitality, health, beauty and wellbeing. But, I want to make it clear that diet will always be the number one source of these things/natural beauty. Make sure you don’t forget to eat the rainbow. Fuel your precious body with foods that are real, whole and natural. Make sure you’re consuming an array of vegetables and a lot of dark, leafy greens. I truly believe that food is medicine and to really discover vibrant beauty diet is of utmost importance.

  1. Use organic beauty products. This includes hair products, skin products and makeup. Ditch the paraben filled, toxic stuff and opt for glorious, natural goodness instead!
  2. Use coconut oil as a beauty product. Use it on your skin (the includes body and face) and in your hair- leave for 2 hours or overnight. Wash after. And voila! Beautiful soft, full, shiny hair and skin. Your skin is your biggest organ. It soaks up everything we put on it. Coconut oil is not only toxic free, but the benefits you get from cooking with it will now be soaking into your skin too. Amazing.
  3. Dry body brush. It gets rid of dead skin, gets the blood flowing, helps with cellulite and feels great! See directions here.
  4. Ditch the toxic nail polish. See info for why right here.
  5. Ditch the toxic perfume. Opt for the much more inexpensive, healthier version such as; essential oils. ¬†I am using a ‘rose’ roll-on right now and it is heavenly.
  6. Drink loads of water. Our bodies are 70% water. Drinking an adequate amount of filtered water every day is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
  7. Say no to daily caffeine. Caffeine dehydrates us, leaving our skin dull. Switch to herbal tea or warm water with lemon instead. If you’re going to drink coffee, try it like¬†this, opt for only a few times per week and make sure you drink an extra liter of water to compensate for its dehydrating effects.
  8. Forget about sugar. Try to change your mindset and put it out of your daily thoughts. I know, easier said than done, but practice makes for great success. Without getting too deep into this subject; sugar ages us, causes weight gain and is extremely toxic. Just say no and say yes, instead, to natural sweeteners like stevia and fruit.
  9. Oil pull for whiter teeth and healthier gums. See directions here. This may sound strange at first but it is an age-old tradition. It pulls toxins from your system while whitening your teeth and healing your gums. It is the original mouthwash (without the nasty chemicals and toxins)!
  10. Get an adequate amount of sleep. At least 8 hours of sleep every night is crucial for your beauty and health. Sleep deprivation can cause a number of issues including weight gain. You can learn more about this here.

DIY: Simple Bergamot, Wild Orange Salt Scrub

I love DIY projects. However, this wasn’t so much of a “project” as a simple concoction!

This salt scrub will result in super silky skin as it is a wonderful exfoliate and smells absolutely delicious.

  • 1/4 epsom salt
  • 1/8 ground sea salt
  • 1/8 extra virgin coconut oil
  • 5-10 drops Bergamot essential oil- Increases mood, excellent for energizing and revitalizing.
  • 5-10 drops Wild Orange essential oil- Has a sweet, refreshing scent, excellent for anxiety.

  • Combine all ingredients together in a small mason jar or other glass container and mix well
  • Keep stored in your shower (or bathroom) with top sealed tight (will last for several months this way- but it probably won’t because you will want to use it all the time!)
  • Lightly rinse your skin with water
  • Scoop out about a Tablespoon of the scrub and rub it in (legs, feet, arms, stomach; all apply) Rub it in for about 1-5 minutes. The coarseness of the salt will get rid of your dead skin layer and leave you with a new layer that is silky smooth.
  • Rinse thoroughly
  • If you’re done apply some kind of natural organic body lotion/butter onto your skin, use coconut oil (like me) or try out this body butter DIY recipe¬†I shared earlier this year.
  • If you’re not done- this is a great time to shave since your dead skin layer has been removed and your hair has been loosened a bit.

Food plays a huge role in your health, wellness and beauty, but so do the items you choose to put on your skin. After all, it is “the holy grail of beauty.”- Kimberly Snyder

DIY: Body Butter

In our society today, vanity is the number one source of drive when it comes to being “healthy”. While in some instances this is OK, it is also very unfortunate for many reasons. First, people don’t take the time to think about the consequences of not only what is going into their body, but what is going on it as well.

Chemicals used to produce most beauty care products (this ranges anywhere from body lotion, perfume, makeup, sunscreen, deodorant- you name it) are incredibly toxic and harmful to our bodies. Yeah, yeah, yeah…it doesn’t make you ugly or fat so who cares right? I know that’s what some of you are thinking. However, it’s actually proven that they can and they do. Allowing toxic chemicals to be applied onto your skin only takes a mere 26 seconds until it reaches your bloodstream. The toxic chemicals are inside of you in the blink of an eye, screwing around with your internal system. Did you know these toxins can actually make you unable to lose weight? Can cause acne and on a more internal level- cancer and other diseases too? It’s true.

I haven’t always, but now I choose beauty products that are organic (as in, if I ate them- I would be just fine). However, not only can these products be super pricey, but they aren’t always as “natural” and “organic” as they claim. Big industries can get away with A LOT. So therefore, as of lately, I ADORE making my own. It’s so inexpensive, fun, a great creative outlet and you get to make it feel and smell exactly they way you want to.

Above you’ll see the recipe for Do It Yourself Body Butter. (Plus, you also need 2 teaspoons of distilled water.) See full ingredient list, benefits and method below.

  • 2 Tbsp. Beeswax
  • 2 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 1 Tbsp. Sesame Oil
  • 1/2 cup She Butter
  • 10 drops doTERRA Tangerine essential oil
  • 2 tsp. distilled water¬†

I used Tangerine essential oil, but please feel free to use your preference.

A few benefits of the ingredients include:

  • Beeswax: Locks in moisture, protects skin from environmental factors, softens the skin
  • Olive oil: Used as an ancient remedy for skin care in Egypt, it is anti-aging because of its high levels of antioxidants, improves acne
  • Shea Butter: Helps to heal damaged skin, intensely moisturizes, helps restore elasticity (a.k.a. wrinkle prevention & anti-aging), soothes eczema & psoriasis, soothes rashes and although it doesn’t replace a strong sunscreen it helps protect from the sun
  • Sesame oil: Holds moisture in to keep your skin hydrated¬†
  • Tangerine essential oil by doTERRA: improves circulation, helps maintain the oil and moisture balance in the skin

  • To make it, a glass double boiler is best to melt and mix everything together. However, a normal pot will work. Just leave it on low heat, watch it carefully and stir consistently so it doesn’t burn.
  • Melt the beeswax with the water first then gradually blend in the remaining ingredients.¬†
  • Pour the mixture into preferred container and let it cool. Once it cools it will harden and be ready to use. Give it at least 40 minutes, maybe a little longer.

The texture is heavenly and the results are fabulous- I know from experience.

If you need to buy any of these ingredients you can order them with doTERRA here (such an amazing company that I am so proud to be affiliated with).

Have fun!

xoxo, Danielle
