Did you know that without mental wellbeing we can’t have physical wellbeing either? It’s true. Here is your to-do list for a great to start to overall health and vibrant living (mentally and physically). The best part? You can start right now!

  • Love yourself (Enough to… be healthy, make smart choices, exercise, eat right & ditch the chemicals!)
  • Practice affirmations (this is a great website to check out for these)
  • Use a gratitude journal (I use this one.)
  • Get rid of the junk in the house (Don’t be tempted- food is medicine and diet is THE most important aspect of health, wellness and living your most vibrant life. )
  • Sleep (at least 8 hours per night)
  • Watch a funny movie (Laughter is good for the soul and releases stress)
  • Follow your bliss. (What do you love? Figure that out and do more of it. Much more.)
  • Read a book on self development. (try this one.)
  • Believe in yourself. (If you don’t, no one else will either.)
  • Drop the guilt. (If a relationship needs mending, mend it. If someone needs forgiving, forgive them.  Whether it be in your own head or in person, whether youre ready to or not, just do it, Drop the guilt, you don’t want that weighing on your shoulders any longer. No matter what, you will feel better.)
  • Move. (Yes, you guessed it- exercise! be active in any way you like, just move that beautiful body of yours. Dance around the house, clean, walk, run, bike, hike, do yoga, lift weights- whatever your little heart desires.)

10 Natural Beautifying Tips

60% of what goes onto our skin goes into your blood within just 26 seconds. In order to truly live a healthy lifestyle we must examine every area, and this includes excluding toxic chemicals from your beautifying practice. I personally follow all of these natural beautifying tips and I love them! I think they have a huge influence on my vitality, health, beauty and wellbeing. But, I want to make it clear that diet will always be the number one source of these things/natural beauty. Make sure you don’t forget to eat the rainbow. Fuel your precious body with foods that are real, whole and natural. Make sure you’re consuming an array of vegetables and a lot of dark, leafy greens. I truly believe that food is medicine and to really discover vibrant beauty diet is of utmost importance.

  1. Use organic beauty products. This includes hair products, skin products and makeup. Ditch the paraben filled, toxic stuff and opt for glorious, natural goodness instead!
  2. Use coconut oil as a beauty product. Use it on your skin (the includes body and face) and in your hair- leave for 2 hours or overnight. Wash after. And voila! Beautiful soft, full, shiny hair and skin. Your skin is your biggest organ. It soaks up everything we put on it. Coconut oil is not only toxic free, but the benefits you get from cooking with it will now be soaking into your skin too. Amazing.
  3. Dry body brush. It gets rid of dead skin, gets the blood flowing, helps with cellulite and feels great! See directions here
  4. Ditch the toxic nail polish. See info for why right here.
  5. Ditch the toxic perfume. Opt for the much more inexpensive, healthier version such as; essential oils.  I am using a ‘rose’ roll-on right now and it is heavenly.
  6. Drink loads of water. Our bodies are 70% water. Drinking an adequate amount of filtered water every day is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
  7. Say no to daily caffeine. Caffeine dehydrates us, leaving our skin dull. Switch to herbal tea or warm water with lemon instead. If you’re going to drink coffee, try it like this, opt for only a few times per week and make sure you drink an extra liter of water to compensate for its dehydrating effects.
  8. Forget about sugar. Try to change your mindset and put it out of your daily thoughts. I know, easier said than done, but practice makes for great success. Without getting too deep into this subject; sugar ages us, causes weight gain and is extremely toxic. Just say no and say yes, instead, to natural sweeteners like stevia and fruit.
  9. Oil pull for whiter teeth and healthier gums. See directions here. This may sound strange at first but it is an age-old tradition. It pulls toxins from your system while whitening your teeth and healing your gums. It is the original mouthwash (without the nasty chemicals and toxins)!
  10. Get an adequate amount of sleep. At least 8 hours of sleep every night is crucial for your beauty and health. Sleep deprivation can cause a number of issues including weight gain. You can learn more about this here.

The How-To and Why of Green Smoothies + 5 Recipes to Get You Started

I am a huge green smoothie advocate. They have seriously changed my life.  I have one green smoothie (or one green juice -but today we’re all about smoothies) almost every single day.

They make me feel amazing, hydrated and energized.

It is important to line your stomach with something alkaline before you eat any meal and especially first thing in the morning. It helps with digestion which is the key to a healthy weight.

I truly can not put enough emphasis on how amazing they are for you and how great they make you feel.

I know green smoothies can be intimidating at first, but let me try and make it a tad easier for you with some tips, advice, recipes & by explaining the glorious benefits you will receive inside and out.

Benefits will include all of the following:

  • Glowing skin
  • Clear skin
  • Enhanced energy
  • Reduced stress
  • Hydration
  • More servings of veggies in 1 smoothie (if you do it right) than many people get in an entire day! Greens are the #1 food missing in most people’s diets today. After drinking them for a few weeks, you’re likely to crave them and other forms of greens too.
  • Alkalinity in your blood system and body
  • Nutrients, minerals and vitamins practically shooting straight into your bloodstream (almost as fast as fresh juice).  The more we chew food the easier it is to digest and obtain the nutritional value. The problem is, many of us don’t take the time to chew as long as we should.  I am guilty on numerous occasions! In this case, the blender does it for you!
  • Fiber. Green smoothies (vs. green juice) are a complete food- they still obtain fiber which is important for our elimination process.

Ingredient advice:

  • Banana masks the flavor of almost any veggie concoction
  • Ratio should be 3/4 veggies, 1/4 fruit
  • Adding lemon juice adds fantastic fresh flavor and is detoxifying
  • Use either filtered water, coconut water or coconut/almond/cashew, etc. milk for a base
  • Cilantro and parsley pull toxins out of the body
  • Coconut oil, coconut meat, avocado and almond/cashew/brazil nut butters are great for energy as they are great sources of healthy fats and will keep you fuller for longer. They also make for a great milkshake a.k.a. a creamier, dreamier smoothie!

For best results:

  • Blend your leafy greens (kale, spinach, romaine lettuce, etc.) with the liquid of your choice first so you have a juice-like consistency then add the harder bits after that.
  • The more you blend your veggies…
  1. the more chlorophyll you’re releasing. “Consuming chlorophyll is like receiving a healthy blood transfusion.” –Dr. Ann Wigmore
  2. the more of the greens and fruits’ cells will be ruptured– releasing their valuable vitamins and nutrients and making it easily absorbed in the body.
  3. the smoother your smoothie will be- which will make it easier to digest and more delicious.
  • Add ice for a refreshing, icy cold experience right away. (Or place in freezer for 15-20 minutes.)
  • You can keep your smoothies in the fridge for up to 3 days if you are short for time, but drinking them fresh is the most nutritious.


* The Green Goddess

  • Fill the blender to the top with romaine lettuce and spinach (half and half)
  • 3 celery stalks
  • Parsley to taste (a handful is good)
  • ½ an apple
  • ½ ripe banana (bananas that are green-ish and without any spots will be acidic instead of the intended alkaline pH when digested.)
  • ½ cup of filtered water.

* Creamiest Green Smoothie

  • 1 apple
  • 1/2 pear
  • 1/2 banana
  • 3 handfuls spinach
  • 3 stalks celery
  • ½ small (Lebanese) cucumber
  • ½ cup filtered water
  • ½ avocado

*Nutty Chocolate Green Smoothie

  • 1Tbsp. almond butter
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (Preferably homemade. See my recipe here.  )
  • 2 Tbsp. cacao powder (can be found at health food stores)
  • 2 big handfuls of spinach

*Creamy Chocolate Green Milkshake

  • ½ cup unsweetened almond milk- find recipe here.
  • 1 banana
  • 4 handfuls spinach
  • 1 packet organic stevia
  • 2 Tbsp. Cacao powder
  • ½ avocado

*Superfood Green Smoothie

  • 1 tsp. spirulina (70% complete protein. More than steak which only contains 25% once cooked! Especially perfect for vegans; can be found at health food stores.)
  • 2 Tbsp. desiccated, unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 1 Tbsp. organic, virgin coconut oil
  • 1 packet organic stevia
  • 1/2 apple
  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 stalks kale leaves
  • 2 stalks celery

*The Refresher

  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 Lebanese cucumber
  • 3/4 apple
  • 3 big handfuls of spinach

A Woman’s Guide to Self-Lovin’

I talk a lot about nutrition and health. I talk a lot about how food is medicine and we are what we eat. However, today I want to talk about something a bit different, but keep in mind that just because it is different does not mean it is not as important as nourishing our bodies with the “right” foods. We also have to nourish ourselves with something else. I’m talking about a certain kind of love that is more important than any other you will have ever known.

I’m talking about self-love. This kind of love is the act of loving yourself- wholly, unconditionally and without reprimand. Think of the way you love your kids, your dog, your mother or father…do you love yourself just as much or (yes, please) more? You absolutely should love yourself more. I promise, this is not selfish; it is necessary.

I have a small request…I would like you to fall madly in love with yourself. Like I said, this is not selfish, it is necessary.

It’s no secret how wonderful, talented, beautiful and unique you are. So, why not? Not only is this act actually good for your health, but you will love life so much more if you do. Everything comes together when you do this. If you are having difficulty focusing on your health and wellbeing, this will help. If you are having trouble in a romantic relationship, this will help. If you are having trouble making new friends, this will help.

In life, you have to love yourself first, no questions asked. Everything in your life will start to thrive effortlessly when you do. You will radiate with love, joy and self-worth- it will be written all over your face. It is so beautiful, and I invite you to start today.

Start looking at yourself and your life differently starting right now. Focus on the love you have for yourself. Think about your accomplishments, your inner & outer beauty, your successes, your defeats…all apply. Wherever you are in your life; single, married, divorced, in a relationship, engaged- start your self-love journey today.

Follow this list for some of my favorite acts of self-love and although there are many more, I believe these will help get you started until you find some of your own favorites.

  • Journaling. Such a great way to release. To release anger, frustration, self-doubt, negativity, self-hatred. I want you to write it all down. The good, the bad, the ugly. Let it go. I also want you to write down the things you’re grateful for. It can be intangible (like the air in your lungs, the beautiful day, or the love of your family) or something tangible like (your job, your new bed sheets, food in the fridge for your favorite meal).
  • Treat yourself. Take the time to relax in a bubble bath, do some yoga, apply a new (organic!) face mask.
  • Skip the television. Advertisements are incredibly well thought-out, but they do NOT serve your best interest. In fact, they are strategically thought out so that you actually feel terrible about yourself.  I recommend recording your favorite shows so you can fast forward through them or watching a movie instead (preferably featuring a powerful, independent woman or something hilarious. Laughing has been scientifically proven to boost your mood.)
  • Bake yourself a delicious, guilt-free treat (or treats)! Don’t subject yourself to the “sugar blues” any time, any day.  The emotional roller coaster processed sugar causes will only make anything and everything going on in your life completely dramatized. Trust me. (I have many fab, easy, homemade, completely guilt-free dessert recipes on the blog. You can find them at any time!
  • Call a family member or friend who lifts you higher (and preferably makes you laugh). Talking to a loved one who really knows you and just “gets you” is going to make you feel loved, happy and alive. Let them know what’s new and good in your life.
  • Go for a walk or run outside. Connecting with nature combined with the endorphins from exercise is so good for the soul. It truly is an instant mood booster. Listen to your favorite playlist; something upbeat is always good.
  • If you’re near the beach or another body of water – go there. Walk on the beach, sit and simply breath in the salty sea air, listen to the ocean or go for a quick dip. This always lifts my spirits way up and beyond. Don’t live near water? Go to a place that makes you feel at ease. The park, a hilltop…
  • Go to the mirror, look at yourself, and repeat, “I accept and love myself exactly as I am.”  I know it sounds a bit silly, but affirmations are very powerful. If you’re someone who is hard on themselves (and many of us are) you will really benefit from this. I want you to love yourself with all your heart. Saying this in the mirror will make your subconscious start to believe it, and therefore you will start to believe it and accept yourself for the fabulous person that you are. Say this affirmation over and over again if you want to, or whenever you walk past a mirror- the more the better.
  • Pull an Oprah and make a vision board. Have you taken the time to sort out your goals lately? Vision boards have become increasingly popular, are very effective and a fun, creative activity in general. Print out pics from the web/pinterest or cut them out of magazines. Anything that you feel relates to your goals is great! Quotes, pics of inspirational people, landscapes that make you feel peaceful/somewhere you want to go are all great.
  • Have a girls night! Drink a little red wine, prepare delicious, healthy meals and desserts, and vow to banish any negative self talk for the night (and all other nights would be ideal!). Go around and list the thing you each love about yourselves the most. Then give a compliment to each person there and them the same to you.

Self-love is one of the most important things when it comes to your health and wellness. Don’t let the media or society determine how you feel about yourself or who you are. This life is yours- conquer it. Start your self-love journey right now. Start giving yourself all the love you have to give! Be in love with yourself every minute of every day. It’s the best gift anyone could ever render. Remember how incredibly fabulous and beautiful you are-inside and out. Remember to be grateful for what you have (which I bet is a hell of a lot more than so many people!). Love yourself enough to make good choices. Stay positive and here’s to the exciting journey towards true health, wellness and self-lovin’ there could ever be!
