Dairy-Free “Cream Cheese” Frosting

Just writing this post makes my mouth water.

Bonus: It’s healthy AND easy to make

Oh, and did I mention absolutely delectable?!

Once again we can thank the brilliant Detoxinista for this recipe!

You will need a food processor or very strong blender for this recipe.

Makes 1 1/4 cups

  • 3/4 cup raw cashews (*You will need to soak and then rinse these for at least 30 min and preferably 2-3 hours in filtered water. The longer they soak the easier they will be to blend and make creamy.*)
  • 2 Tbsp. melted extra virgin coconut oil
  • 3 Tbsp. raw honey
  • 1 tsp. all natural vanilla
  • 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp. celtic/himalayan sea salt

–> You might need to add 2-3 Tbsp. of water while processing/blending this mixture

  1. Throw your ingredients into your food processor and whizz away adding water as needed
  2. Adjust the flavor if needed then add to a bowl and chill in the freezer for at least 1 hour (so it thickens) or in the fridge over night (the longer you let it chill the thicker it will be)

Delicious served on the side with fruit or on your favorite healthy baked goods! My fiancé’s favorite way to have this is with the Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Bars which makes for a very rich dessert.

I also recommend spreading on top of the:

Grain-Free Banana Bread

Decadent Brownies

Healthy Pumpkin Bars

Fluffy, Golden Pancakes

Walking Barefoot Has Actual Health Benefits

The hippies in the 70’s might have been on to something…. 😉

Did you know that walking barefoot in nature has actual health benefits for your precious body?

It’s true!

Whether it’s at the beach or in your back yard you reap the benefits. As long as you are walking on ground that is au naturel you’re good to go!

It has been proved in various scientific studies that walking barefoot (or “earthing”) on natural ground can improve health in various ways because of the relationship between the electrons in the earth and our bodies.

“The theory behind earthing — which essentially means walking barefoot — is that the earth is one of the most powerful energy sources; when our bodies make direct contact with the ground, we absorb the earth’s beneficial, natural energy in the form of electrons. The electrons allow us to absorb the positive and let go of the negative. It used to happen naturally when cavemen walked barefoot, allowing them to have closer connection to the earth — and look how healthy they were!”

Amazing huh!?

Some of the benefits include:

-Reduced stress levels

– Fight varicose veins

– Decreased feelings of depression

– Strengthens and stretches your muscles, tendons and ligaments in your feet, ankles and calves

– Increased antioxidants levels

– Reduced inflammation

– Improve sleep

– Thins blood & creates better circulation making for improved cardiovascular health

But, don’t take my word for it! Take 15-30 minutes to walk barefoot today and see how good you feel afterwards.

Video: Do you have a food allergy or food intolerance?

So many people today have a food allergy or even a food intolerance (less severe) and don’t know it!

It can be easy to mistake a food allergy or intolerance with fatigue, an upset tummy, bloating, headaches, irregular bowels, nutrient deficiency, weight gain or weight loss.

If you have an inkling you might be allergic to something then go get tested. Or, if you are convinced you are allergic or intolerant to something try eliminating it from your diet for 2 weeks and pay close attention to your body especially after you eat. I would suggest doing this even if you are also going to get tested properly as many tests aren’t 100% accurate.

What is My Diet Like?

A big question I get asked all the time: What is my diet like? Am I a vegan? Vegetarian?

If you read my ebook (get your complimentary copy today!) then you will have a better idea of what my diet is like.

Let me go ahead and say now that a diet that I thrive on may not be right for you. That’s why a big part of my program is creating a special road map of health and wellness for each client.

To start with I don’t consider myself vegan , vegetarian or associate myself with any group or category. If I’m craving something and it is a real food, I eat it. However most of the time I stay away from meat, dairy, refined sugar, gluten and anything that is processed. In fact, that is my #1 tip for a healthy life. Stay away from anything that comes in a package, box, etc. It is absolutely best to eat foods in their most natural state, no matter who you are.

If it’s grown in the garden I eat it if it’s made in a lab it takes a lab to digest. -Kris Carr

Do You REALLY Love Your Life?

Hi there, beautiful! Today, I’m going to ask you a very important question…

Do you love your life? Really love it? Are you allowing yourself to receive everything you have always wanted?

I hope so! Many people don’t and you could very well be one of them. It is so important that we listen to our hearts, follow our bliss and live the life we really love. A big part of that is being authentic. We cant be truly happy until we are 100% honest with ourselves about who we really are. Forget about who you are supposed to be and just be YOU. After all, there is only one of you now and forever, and that’s a pretty miraculous thing in and of itself.

The Power of Now by, Eckhart Tolle

 Spirit Junkie by, Gabrielle Bernstein.

Buying Organic Produce: Simple Tips, Tricks and Guidance

I get asked about buying organic a lot. Organic food is so important for many reasons.

For example, it is not laden with wax, pesticides and chemicals that clog our body with nasty toxins and potentially cause many different diseases. Yikes!

It is not only more nutritious, but it tastes better too. However, I realize buying all organic, all the time is not always an option for everyone. It’s not an option for me either- all the time. Therefore, I use a few little tricks:

A) I clean my produce “properly” when you think it’s possible that it has been sprayed with chemicals and pesticides

B) I use the “clean 15 and dirty dozen” rule of thumb

C) I buy local! Local produce is much fresher; it travels much more quickly to the grocery store and is less likely to contain GMO’s.

D) Grow your own! I love having a garden. It feel fabulous knowing exactly where you food has come from and how it has been treated. Plus, I grow my food with love. 😉

You can clean your fruit and vegetables like this. Once they’ve soakied for long enough gently scrub, rinse, dry and enjoy.

I try and buy almost everything organic, but when I can’t I use this list as guidance.

Introducing: Lauren from With Raw Intentions

Today, I am so pleased to introduce you to Lauren from With Raw Intentions!

I first discovered With Raw Intentions on Instagram and was so overhwlemed by the stunning display of her recipes. It makes me miss summer- that is for sure!

Read below to discover what makes this treasure tick and how she maintains such a beautiful, healthy lifestyle.

1.     Hello Lauren! Thanks for being here! Please, tell us about yourself. Name, age, where you’re from…we want to know it all.

Hi Danielle and thanks for having me! My name is Lauren Golin and I’m a 22-year-old       recent college graduate currently living and working in New York City.

2.     How did With Raw Intentions come to be?

With Raw Intentions started as an account on Instagram that I created when I made the decision to eat a 100% low-fat, raw vegan diet in early January 2013. Initially it was just a way for me to keep a log of what I was eating and to record my recipes. Within a week I had over 1000 followers and realized that this wasn’t just for me anymore, but a platform to inspire others to eat healthier as well. In early February I built my blog as a way to reach a wider audience and to share more recipes with more detailed photos and directions. The Facebook fan page, twitter feed, and Pinterest account were all created at that time too.

3.     Have you always lived a healthy lifestyle?

I would like to say so. I was a competitive swimmer from age 9 to 18 so while I typically ate a balanced diet, I never had to worry about calories or weight since I was in the pool everyday. Throughout college I experimented with the Paleo diet for quite some time, which is heavy on meat, fish, and eggs. Though I again never needed to worry about weight and was keeping up with daily exercise, I often experienced a lack of energy from my low intake of carbohydrates.

4.     How has your life changed since you started With Raw Intentions?

The better question is how has it stayed the same?! It’s really changed my whole perspective on the world and everyday this lifestyle continues to transform my body in fantastic ways. Eating a diet composed of an abundance of raw fruits and vegetables with little nuts and seeds has, contrary to popular belief, provided me with more energy than I thought possible. I wake up in the morning feeling awake and refreshed and when it comes time to workout, whether running, yoga, swimming, or weight training, my body gets excited to move. I’m always in a happy mood and, after suffering from acne for years and years, my skin is finally starting to clear up and feel so much softer. It’s also been really fun to educate others about this lifestyle. A few find it bizarre, which is very understandable given how mainstream culture teaches us to eat, but most are very intrigued and want to pick my brain and learn more about raw foods, which is so awesome!

5.     Where does your inspiration come from?

I LOVE bright colors! Fruits and veggies are the brightest, most beautiful foods I really draw most of my inspiration from what nature has to offer. Of course, I also enjoy what everyone else posts on social media, like Instagram and blogs, so healthy inspiration is really coming at me from so many things all throughout the day.

6.     What can we expect to see from you in the future?

I really would love to start up a YouTube channel soon! The blog is fun but I think that people could get to know me a little better through videos and also I think recipes would be easier to follow if I were to demo them in action. I’m okay in the photography department but when it comes to filming, editing, and all that jazz I’m still learning.

7.     What does healthy living mean to you?

I think healthy living mainly means listening to your body. It is designed for nutritious food, daily exercise, sleep, sun, water, and social interaction. I think incorporating these natural things into your lifestyle and forgetting about the scale, fad diets, supplements, and so on will set you on the path to peace, health, and happiness.

8.     What is your favorite part of the life you lead today?

Hands down it’s that I get to inspire people from all around the world to eat better and get excited about taking care of themselves! When you have your health, you can do all of the other jobs and activities that mean the most to you. So I get excited everyday to share fun and easy ways that not only better my own life and body, but also help those who want to maintain or regain a healthy lifestyle.

9.     What are your daily non-negotiables that you just can’t live without?

Definitely enough sleep. Sleep is so important and I think our hectic lives get in the way and make us “forget” that we need to give the body time to rest and repair itself. I never feel quite right when I don’t get enough quality sleep and so I make the conscious effort every night for at least 8 to 10 hours.

10.  What do you like to do for fun, for you?

Aside from just being with my family and friends, I spend my free time prepping raw food recipes, blogging, and just learning as much as I can about this lifestyle. It’s certainly a passion that I’m so happy to have discovered. Comparatively speaking though, I’m still a newbie to the raw food lifestyle so as much as I like to inspire others, I too am still absorbing tons of new info everyday.
