4. This Valentine’s Day I not only spent time with my loving fiancé but I also focused deeply on the love I have for myself and encouraged others to do the same in this article.
5. I am now being featured on the fabulous website http://www.relauncher.com.au (based in Australia)! I have had the pleasure of connecting with the fabulous woman, Alison, who runs Relauncher. She sells some seriously amazing products. Come check out the website and Your Break-Through’s personal page here.
6. I have made the decision (along with my fiancé) to move to Bali, Indonesia for 7 months. June-December. I will be doing a special detox program for those looking for a retreat/vacation as well as getting my yoga teacher’s certification in November.
7. I am working with my whole family on cutting out processed sugar completely. My family is generally a healthy group of people; however, they looove their sugar. As do most people! However; after learning about how toxic and dangerous it is, they have asked me to help them with this while I am home. If we can break the habit, then they will be able to follow through once I am no longer here visiting. I am so proud of them for starting this journey and will be posting all about their struggles and progress on my blog.
*Bonus tips…Things I have been loving*
* Avalon Organics:
Leaves my hair silky smooth without all the nasty toxins and chemicals. Not to mention, they smell so delicious! I am totally in love with the Strengthening Peppermint shampoo and the Shine Ylang Ylang conditioner.
*Butter LONDON Nailpolish:
I have always loved a truly gorgeous bottle of nail polish. Some of my favorite brands used to be Essie and OPI. However, I have recently given them up due to the idea of their extremely toxic ingredients leaching into my bloodstream almost instantly. At first, I didn’t know if I could give them up. Cue Butter nail lacquers to the rescue! Born in London, just as fab, elegant, cutting edge and yes, amazingly shiny as my past favorite lines. The BEST part: their products are formulated without the use of the harmful ingredients like Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP or Parabens. I won’t go into too much detail here but an example of the dangers can be seen in Formaldehyde: When formaldehyde comes in contact with skin (which is what your nails consist of), it can cause contact dermatitis, blistering, and chemical burns. Exposure to low amounts of formaldehyde may lead to eye, skin and respiratory tract irritation. High levels can cause irregular heartbeat, pulmonary swelling, and even death. Yikes! Solution: Switch to Butter.
* Health Documentaries:
If you live in America, you can find an array of health documentaries on Netflix. Otherwise, you can rent them on iTunes for as little as $2.99 or go to their websites to watch. They’re usually only about an hour long. They are so eye-opening and you will learn SO much. You can start with my 3 faves: Hungry for Change, Forks Over Knives and Food Matters.
*Homemade Face Mask:
~Very inexpensive, effective, oober natural and fun!
Ingredients: Castor Oil, Spirulina (also great in smoothies- more protein than red meat once it’s cooked!) Use equal parts a.k.a. 50/50 ratio of each ingredient (about 1 Tbsp. for 2x people) or until you have a creamy consistency. Spread all over face, leave until dry, clean off with warm towel.
~Also very inexpensive, effective, oober natural and fun!
Mix equal parts of coconut oil and baking soda. Add natural sweetener (like organic Stevia) and/or a few drops of all natural spearmint or peppermint essential oil for flavor. Mix and keep it in a glass container with a lid in your bathroom. Spoon some out or dip your dry toothbrush into the container!
If you don’t make your own I HIGHLY recommend switching to a fluoride and toxin-free brand.
*Essential Oil instead of Toxic Perfume:
We all must know by now (assuming you’ve been reading top to bottom) that any beauty product that is not organic and natural is toxic and seeps into our bloodstream so quickly. This affects our ability to lose weight and can lead to some pretty nasty side effects on the inside and the outside.
Essential oils smell delicious. My favorites right now are Rose and Vanilla. You can also find natural perfumes from lines like 100% Pure and Origins. Since using these products for a while now, it is amazing to me how toxic and chemically the old products I used smell.
*Cinnamon Apple Spice and Bengal Spice herbal, caffeine-free tea by Celestial:
100% natural, sugar-free and sooo delicious! In my opinion, they taste like a treat.
*100% Pure Makeup and Skincare Line:
I actually use very minimal makeup on a daily basis. If I wear any, it’s concealer under my eyes, mascara and neutral eyeshadow…possibly a little eyeliner. This brand is absolutely FABULOUS and so healthy and PURE you could actually eat it and it wouldn’t harm you (although I don’t know how good it would taste). Another great brand (that I know for sure delivers all over the world so get excited my kiwi and aussie friends!) is Origins. All organic and all smells fantastic. Their makeup and skincare is also so fab. Using these products= zero toxins seeping into your bloodstream (which happens in less than 30 seconds) = easier weight loss, clearer skin, and healthier living overall.
Seriously great if you don’t have access to big health food stores, want to buy in bulk or love ordering online because you don’t have time to shop, etc. Check it out!
Hot off the press from my blog this month:
~ Adequate rest is so important to our health and wellbeing. In fact, it is one of the MOST important aspects. It affects our weight, mood, ability to make rational decisions, and much, much more. See the handbook for getting adequate rest while still achieving your goals without missing a beat.
~Hydration is another KEY point in our health and wellbeing. Read this article to see why and how to spruce up your regular water intake with ZERO calories added.
~Have you ever took a the time to ask yourself where your food is coming from? If not, do you think you should? Read here to see why this is so important.
~ I wrote a special article all about women empowerment. These women were all told they could not achieve their wildest dreams. And boy, did they prove everyone wrong! Read about their biggest accomlishments and enjoy their fabulous, inspirational quotes here.
Let these women be some of our greatest personal role models and never let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve something you’re certain you want. Focus on it, manifest it happening and never give up.
~ I recently read The Alchemist by, Paulo Coelho. This book is so highly renowned. In the book, Coelho introduces the reader into looking at coincidences in a completely new and different way than most people usually see them. What if these “coincidences” weren’t actually coincidences after all? What if it was all happening for a certain reason, perhaps to guide you down a particular path? Read here.
~ Lastly, read here for all the hottest tips concerning Green Smoothies! I am a HUGE green smoothie advocate. In this article I explain all the do’s and don’ts, the how’s and why’s and even provide multiple recipes- including healthy chocolate milkshakes! Read here.
I have a number of new recipes on my website this month. Varying from Sweet, to Savory, to Simple Snacks. All of my recipes are, unless otherwise stated, are created in the comfort of my own kitchen! They will always be meat, gluten, dairy and sugar free making them very healthy. I would also like to add that in no way am I a chef- I like recipes that are simple, reasonably quick and still very delicious. Chances are I won’t make it or eat it if it lacks those 3 qualities. I think you’re going to love them.
Homemade Almond Milk
Banana-Spice Smoothie (complete with a superfood protein component)
Apple-Walnut Bliss Balls (my little sister’s fave)
“Cheezy” Kale Chips
Raw Zucchini Pasta
The Ultimate Zucchini Hummus
Orange-Lemon Ice Cream
Happy February and until next time…
